Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city 1 and you are dwelling in this city -- 2 and I swear by the parent and his offspring: 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does man think that no one will ever have power over him? 5 He saith: I have wasted riches plenteous. 6 Deemest he that none beholdeth him? 7 Have We not made for him a pair of eyes? 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 And what will explain to thee the path that is steep?- 12 (It is) to free a slave, 13 or the feeding, upon a day of [one's own] hunger, 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 Or the poor in distress; 16 and being, withal, of those who have attained to faith, and who enjoin upon one another patience in adversity, and enjoin upon one another compassion. 17 They are the people of the right hand (and will succeed). 18 But those who disbelieve in Our verses, they are the Companions of the Left, 19 The Fire will vault them over. 20
True are the words of God the Almighty.
