a large throng from the ancients, 39 And a multitude of those (on the Right Hand) will be from the later times (generations). 40 Those on the Left: how unfortunate are those on the Left! 41 They will find themselves in scorching wind and scalding water, 42 and a shade of thick, pitch-black smoke, 43 neither cool nor refreshing. 44 Verily they have been heretofore affluent. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 "(We) and our fathers of old?" 48 Tell them, (O Prophet): “The earlier ones and the later ones 49 will indeed be gathered together at an appointed time on a Day known [only to God]: 50 and then, verily, O you who have gone astray and called the truth a lie, 51 Shall surely eat of the tree of Az-Zqqum. 52 And fill (your) bellies with it; 53 Then drink over it of boiling water; 54 And will drink as the drinking of thirsty camels. 55 Such will be their entertainment on the Day of Requital! 56 We created you; therefore why will you not believe? 57 Have you thought about what (sperm) you ejaculate? 58 Did you create it or was it We who created it? 59 We have decreed death among you, and We are not to be outdone 60 Had We so wished, nothing could have hindered Us from replacing you by others like yourselves, or transforming you into beings you know nothing about. 61 And [since] you are indeed aware of the [miracle of your] coming into being in the first instance - why, then, do you not bethink yourselves [of Us]? 62 Have ye seen that which ye cultivate? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 If We so wished, We could have reduced your harvest to rubble, and you would have been left wonder-struck to exclaim: 65 Lo! we are laden with debt! 66 Nay, but we have been deprived [of our livelihood]!" 67 Have you ever considered the water which you drink? 68 Is it you who cause it to come down from the clouds - or are We the cause of its coming down? 69 If We willed, surely We would make it brackish. Wherefore give ye not thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Is it you who have produced its tree or is it We who have produced it? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 Glorify, then, (O Prophet), the name of your Great Lord. 74
