The News (Al-Naba')
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 (It is) of the awful tidings, 2 About which they differ? 3 Indeed, they shall know! 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 And made the night as a covering, 10 And We have made the day for seeking livelihood. 11 And built seven strong roofs above you. 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And We sent down rain from water-laden clouds pouring in torrents 14 so that We may bring forth thereby grain and a variety of plants, 15 and gardens dense with foliage. 16 VERILY, the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false] has indeed its appointed time: 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 And the heaven will have been opened, and it will have become doors. 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait 21 a home for the transgressors, 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 tasting therein neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 a fitting requital, 26 They indeed hoped not for a reckoning, 27 And they denied Our signs to the extreme. 28 but We have recorded everything in a Book. 29 Therefore taste it now – We shall not increase anything for you except the punishment. 30
