He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 And what should teach thee? Perchance he would cleanse him, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and that the admonition might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attended to him, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 But as for him who cometh unto thee with earnest purpose 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 exalted and purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 Honourable and Virtuous. 16 Accursed is man. How ungrateful is he! 17 Out of what did Allah create him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 Then made his passage easy (at birth); 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 and then, if it be His will, He shall raise him again to life, 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and clover plants (i.e. green fodder for the cattle), 28 and olives, and palms, 29 and dense orchards, 30 And fruits and grass, 31 (To be) a provision and benefit for you and your cattle. 32 At length, when there comes the Deafening Noise,- 33 on a Day when everyone will [want to] flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 Some faces on that day shall shine 38 Laughing, rejoicing. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 those -- they are the unbelievers, the libertines. 42
