He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 when the blind man approached him, 2 But what would make you perceive, [O Muhammad], that perhaps he might be purified 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for him who is not in want of any thing, 5 Unto him thou attendest. 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 By no means (should it be so)! For it is indeed a Message of instruction: 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and purified. 16 May (the disbelieving) human being be condemned! What makes him disbelieve? 17 Of what thing did He create him? 18 From a (sperm) drop He created him and then determined him, 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Nay, but man did not fulfil what Allah had enjoined upon him. 23 Then let man look to his food, 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olives, and palms, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But, when the Blast comes, 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And from his mother and father, 35 wife and sons, 36 every man that day shall have business to suffice him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 Blackness overcoming them. 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked ones. 42
