The chiefs of the people of Fir'aun (Pharaoh) said: "This is indeed a well-versed sorcerer; 109 Who wants to expel you from your land [through magic], so what do you instruct?" 110 They said: put him and his brother off, and send unto the cities callers. 111 That they may bring to you every enchanter possessed of knowledge. 112 So there came the sorcerers to Pharaoh: They said, "of course we shall have a (suitable) reward if we win!" 113 Pharaoh replied: 'Certainly, and you shall be among those who are near to me.' 114 Then they said: 'O Moses, will you [first] throw your rod, or shall we throw?' 115 He said, 'You cast.' And when they cast they put a Spell upon the people's eyes, and called forth fear of them, and produced a mighty sorcery. 116 And We inspired to Moses, "Throw your staff," and at once it devoured what they were falsifying. 117 ۞ Thus the truth prevailed, and that which they had brought vanished. 118 they were defeated and turned belittled, 119 And the magicians flung themselves prostrate. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Musa (Moses) and Harun (Aaron)." 122 Pharaoh said: 'What! Do you believe before you have my permission? Surely this is a plot you have contrived to drive out the rulers from the capital. So you shall see, 123 I shall assuredly cut off alternately your hands and feet, then I shall crucify you all together.' 124 They said, "Indeed, to our Lord we will return. 125 "But thou dost wreak thy vengeance on us simply because we believed in the Signs of our Lord when they reached us! Our Lord! pour out on us patience and constancy, and take our souls unto thee as Muslims (who bow to thy will)! 126
