So, when the envoys came to the folk of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said: Nay, but we bring thee that concerning which they keep disputing, 63 And bring thee the Truth, and lo! we are truth-tellers. 64 "Then travel in a part of the night with your family, and you go behind them in the rear, and let no one amongst you look back, but go on to where you are ordered." 65 And We informed him the decision of this command, that at morning the root of the disbelievers would be cut off. 66 And the people of the city came rejoicing. 67 rushed towards the house of Lot. Lot said to them, "These are my guests. Do not disgrace me. 68 Have fear of God and do not humiliate me". 69 They said, "Have we not forbidden you from [protecting] people?" 70 He said: "There are my daughters (to marry), if ye must act (so)." 71 By your life O dear Prophet (Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) – they are indeed straying in their intoxication. 72 So As-Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.) overtook them at the time of sunrise; 73 And We turned the township upside down and rained upon them stones of heated clay. 74 Surely! In this are signs, for those who see (or understand or learn the lessons from the Signs of Allah). 75 This (city) lies on a road that still survives. 76 Indeed in that is a sign for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We took vengeance on them. Both are still there on the highway, plain for all to see. 79
