The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the heaven breaks apart. 1 And hearkens to (the Command of) its Lord, and it must needs (do so);- 2 and when the earth is leveled, 3 And it unburdens itself of all that is in it, and becomes empty. 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O thou man! Verily thou art ever toiling on towards thy Lord- painfully toiling,- but thou shalt meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 he will in time be called to account with an easy accounting, 8 And he shall go back to his people joyful. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 shall call for destruction 11 and roast at the Blaze. 12 He once lived among his family joyfully; 13 Never thinking he will return. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 So indeed I call to witness the evening twilight, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 And the Moon in her fullness: 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 What, then, is amiss with them that they will not believe [in a life to come]? 20 and [that,] when the Qur'an is read unto them, they do not fall down in prostration? ۩ 21 In fact, they reject the Quran, 22 Whereas Allah knoweth best that which they cherish. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do the right: For them there is reward unending. 25
