Never have We sent a Prophet to a place without trying its people with adversity and hardship that they may humble themselves. 94 But when We changed hardship to ease, and they rose and prospered, (they forgot Our favours) and said: "Our ancestors had also known suffering and joy." So We caught them unawares. 95 Had the people of those towns believed in and feared God, We would have showered upon them blessings from heaven and earth, but they rejected the truth. So We seized them on account of their misdeeds. 96 Can, then, the people of any community ever feel secure that Our punishment will not come upon them by night, while they are asleep? 97 Or, are the people of the townships secure that Our wrath would not come upon them by daylight while they are disporting themselves? 98 Can they remain secure against the plan of God? Only they feel secure against the plan of God who are certain of being ruined. 99
