Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Kaf. Ha. Ya. Ain. Sad. 1 Commemorate the beneficence of your Lord on Zachariah, His devotee, 2 when he called upon his Lord in secret, 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 Indeed, I fear my kinsmen who will succeed me, for my wife is barren. Grant me a kinsman 5 who will be my heir and an heir to the House of Jacob, and make him, my Lord, satisfied' 6 (Allah said) "O Zakariya (Zachariah)! Verily, We give you the glad tidings of a son, His name will be Yahya (John). We have given that name to none before (him)." 7 He said, "My Lord, how will I have a boy when my wife has been barren and I have reached extreme old age?" 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 He said: My Lord! Appoint for me some token. He said: Thy token is that thou, with no bodily defect, shalt not speak unto mankind three nights. 10 He therefore emerged upon his people from the mosque, and told them through gestures, “Keep proclaiming the Purity (of your Lord) morning and evening.” 11 (We said): 'O John, hold fast to the Book', and We bestowed on him judgment while yet a child 12 And compassion from Ourselves, and chastity; and he was extremely pious. 13 and dutiful towards his parents and was not haughty or disobedient. 14 So peace on him the day he was born, the day he will die, and the day that he will be raised from the dead. 15
