Remember Noah when he called to Us before this. We heard him and saved him and those with him from great distress; 76 We helped him against people who rejected Our Signs: truly they were a people given to Evil: so We drowned them (in the Flood) all together. 77 And David and Solomon they passed judgment upon the tilled land on which the people's sheep had strayed. We bore witness to their judgment, and 78 We gave Solomon the right understanding of the matter, and We bestowed wisdom and knowledge on both of them. We caused the mountains and the birds to celebrate Our praises along with David. We had the power to do this -- 79 And We taught him the making of coats of mail for you, that they might protect you in your wars; will you then be grateful? 80 And to Solomon [We subjected] the wind, blowing forcefully, proceeding by his command toward the land which We had blessed. And We are ever, of all things, Knowing. 81 And of the rebellious people there were those who dived for him and did other work besides that, and We kept guard over them; 82 ۞ (Remember) Job when he called to his Lord: "I am afflicted with distress, and You are the most compassionate of all." 83 So We answered his call, and We removed the distress that was on him, and We restored his family to him (that he had lost), and the like thereof along with them, as a mercy from Ourselves and a Reminder for all who worship Us. 84 And (mention) Ishmael, and Idris, and Dhu'l-Kifl. All were of the steadfast. 85 And We admitted them into Our mercy; indeed they are among those who deserve Our proximity. 86 And Dhul Nun -- when he went forth enraged and thought that We would have no power over him; then he called out in the darkness, 'There is no god but Thou. Glory be to Thee! I have done evil.' 87 And so We responded unto him and delivered him from [his] distress: for thus do We deliver all who have faith. 88 Remember Zachariah, when he called out to his Lord, "Do not leave me heirless Lord, You are the best of heirs." 89 We therefore heard his prayer; and bestowed him Yahya, and cured his wife for him; indeed they used to hasten to perform good deeds, and pray to Us with hope and fear; and used to weep before Us. 90 And she who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her of Our inspiration and made her and her son a sign for the nations. 91 'Surely this community of yours is one community, and I am your Lord; so serve Me.' 92 But they split up their affair between them; all shall return to Us. 93
