The 'Ad (people) rejected the messengers. 123 Recall, when their brother Hud said to them: "Have you no fear? 124 I am a trustworthy Messengers sent to you. 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 I ask of you no wage for this; my wage falls only upon the Lord of all Being. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 "And when you seize, seize you as tyrants? 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and springs. 134 I am afraid that you will suffer the torment of the Day of Judgment." 135 [But] they answered. "It is all one to us whether thou preachest [something new] or art not of those who [like to] preach. 136 this is nothing but the habit of the ancients, 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they cried him lies; then We destroyed them. Surely in that is a sign, yet most of them are not believers. 139 And verily thy Lord? He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 140
