The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains fragmented 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 those are they brought near (to their Lord) 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A number of people from those of old, 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 Surrounded by immortal boys. 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and such flesh of fowl as they desire, 21 And pure, beautiful ones, 22 The likenesses of pearls well-protected, 23 a recompense for all that they did. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chastely amorous, 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
