The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
The Hour has come near, and the moon has split [in two]. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They belied (the Verses of Allah, this Quran), and followed their own lusts. And every matter will be settled [according to the kind of deeds (for the doer of good deeds, his deeds will take him to Paradise, and similarly evil deeds will take their doers to Hell)]. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 (Muhammad), leave them alone. On the day when they will be called to a terrible punishment, 6 with down-cast eyes they shall go forth from their graves, as though they were scattered locusts. 7 Hastening towards the caller, the disbelievers will say: "This is a hard Day." 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 And so he called unto his Lord, saying, 'I am vanquished; do Thou succour me!' 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And caused the earth to gush forth springs, so that the waters met for a predestined purpose. 12 And We bore him upon a well-planked vessel well-caulked 13 Sailing in front of Our sight; as a reward for the sake of one who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 And how severe is the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded! 16 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 17 The 'Ad (people) (too) rejected (Truth): then how terrible was My Penalty and My Warning? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 which hurled people around like uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 How was then My punishment and My commination! 21 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 22
