He Frowned ('Abasa)
42 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Stars (Al-Najm) before Destiny (Al-Qadr)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 or have been reminded [of the truth,] and helped by this reminder. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 Though it is not your concern if he should not grow (in fulness). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 And with fear (in his heart), 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 On honourable pages. 13 Exalted (in dignity), purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble, virtuous. 16 Accursed be man! How stubbornly he denies the Truth. 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a sperm-drop did He create him and then determined a measure for him, 19 Then eased the way for him. 20 Then He causes him to die and be buried. 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) hath not done what He commanded him. 23 Let the human reflect on the food he eats, 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 And olives and date palms, 29 And thick gardens, 30 and fruits, and pastures, 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on the Day when each man shall flee from his brother, 34 and from his mother and father, 35 As well as his wife and children. 36 Each man will have enough cares that day. 37 Some faces that Day will be beaming, 38 laughing and joyous 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Darkness shall cover them. 41 They will be the unbelievers, transgressors. 42
Allah Almighty has spoken the truth.
