Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
By the dawn 1 And by ten nights, 2 by the even and the odd, 3 And by the night when it departs. 4 Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception? 5 Did you not see how did your Lord deal with Aad? 6 the people of Iram, the city of many pillars, 7 The like of which were not produced in (all) the land? 8 And with Thamud who carved rocks in the valley; 9 and Pharaoh, he of the tent-pegs, 10 who transgressed in the countries of the world 11 and exceeded in corruption therein. 12 Therefore thy Lord poured on them the disaster of His punishment. 13 Most surely your Lord is watching. 14 As for man, when his Lord tests him, through honour and blessings, he says, "My Lord has honoured me," 15 But when he tries him and stints for him his provision, then he says, 'My Lord has despised me.' 16 Nay, nay! but ye honour not the orphans! 17 Nor urge upon each other the feeding of the poor, 18 And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether, 19 And love wealth with all your heart. 20 But no; when the earth is ground to powder, 21 And thy Lord shall come and the angels, rank on rank. 22 And hell is brought near that day; on that day man will remember, but how will the remembrance (then avail him)? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 None can punish as He will punish on that day, 25 And no one binds like He does! 26 [But to the righteous, God will say], "O soul at peace, 27 Return unto thy Lord, content in His good pleasure! 28 "Enter then among My votaries, 29 "And enter you My Paradise!" 30
