The Heights (Al-Ma'aarej)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
A doubter once demanded that punishment be immediately meted out, 1 Upon the disbelievers – the punishment that none can avert. 2 From God, the Lord of the steps (of progression), 3 by which the angels and the Spirit will ascend to Him in one Day which will last for fifty thousand years. 4 But be patient (O Muhammad) with a patience fair to see. 5 Surely they think it to be far off, 6 And We behold it nigh. 7 On the day when the heavens become like molten metal. 8 and the mountains will be like tufts of wool, 9 And no friend will ask after a friend, 10 Though they shall be made to see one another [(i.e. on the Day of Resurrection), there will be none but see his father, children and relatives, but he will neither speak to them nor will ask them for any help)], - the Mujrim, (criminal, sinner, disbeliever, etc.) would desire to ransom himself from the punishment of that Day by his children. 11 his wife, his brother, 12 And his kin that harboured him 13 And all those who are in the earth – then only if the redemption saves him! 14 No! Indeed, it is the Flame [of Hell], 15 A fire that melts the hide. 16 It shall insistently summon him who turned his back and retreated, 17 Who amasses and then hoards. 18 ۞ Indeed, mankind was created anxious: 19 when misfortune touches him he starts lamenting, 20 and whenever good fortune comes to him, he selfishly withholds it [from others]. 21 save those that pray 22 who are constant in prayer; 23 who, from their wealth is a known right 24 For him who begs and for him who is denied (good) 25 who confirm the Day of Reckoning 26 and go in fear of the chastisement of their Lord 27 Verily the torment of their Lord is not a thing to feel secure from. 28 and guard their private parts 29 except from their spouses and those whom they rightfully possess [through wedlock], for which they incur no blame -- 30 And whosoever seeketh beyond that, then it is those who are the trespassers 31 And those who are faithful to their trusts and their covenant 32 and those who are upright in their testimonies; 33 And those who guard (the sacredness) of their worship;- 34 They will be honoured in the Gardens of Bliss. 35
