۞ (God will command the angels), "Gather together the unjust, their spouses, and what they had worshipped 22 other than Allah, and guide them to the Path of Hell! 23 And detain them, for they will be questioned." 24 "What is the matter with you that you do not help each other?" 25 Indeed, today they are surrendering themselves completely.” 26 They will then turn towards each other (and start wrangling). 27 saying: 'You used to come to us from the right hand' 28 They shall say: Nay, you (yourselves) were not believers; 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 "We led you astray: for truly we were ourselves astray." 32 Truly, that Day, they will (all) share in the Penalty. 33 This is how We deal with the guilty. 34 for when it was said to them, 'There is no god but God,' they were ever waxing proud, 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 Aye! he hath come with the truth, and he confesseth to the sent ones. 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 and will be recompensed only for what you deserve. 39 Save the chosen slaves of Allah (faithful, obedient, true believers of Islamic Monotheism). 40 For them is a known sustenance, 41 Fruits! And they shall be honoured. 42 In gardens of pleasure, 43 seated on couches, facing one another. 44 a cup filled with wine from its springs, will be passed around to them; 45 White, delicious for the drinkers. 46 Neither does it intoxicate, nor give a headache. 47 And with them will be maidens (houris) who restrain their wide glances 48 [as free of faults] as if they were hidden [ostrich] eggs. 49 And some of them draw near unto others, mutually questioning. 50 One of them will say, "I had a companion who asked me, 51 who was wont to ask [me,] 'Why - art thou really one of those who believe it to be true 52 What, when we are dead and become dust and bones, shall we indeed be requited?" 53 He said (to others on the thrones), “Will you take a glimpse (into hell) below?” 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He said: "By Allah! thou wast little short of bringing me to perdition! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I should certainly have been among those brought (there)! 57 (Allah informs about that true believer that he said): "Are we then not to die (any more)? 58 Save our first death, and are we not to be tormented? 59 “This is, most certainly, the supreme success.” 60 for the like of this let the workers work.' 61 Is this better as a welcome, or the tree of Zaqqum? 62 Lo! We have appointed it a torment for wrong-doers. 63 It is a tree that grows at the bottom of Hell. 64 The fruit thereof is as though the hoods of the serpents. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 And behold, above all this they will be confounded with burning despair! 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They found their fathers erring, 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 Before them erred most of the ancients, 71 We had certainly sent warners to them. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were admonished (but heeded not),- 73 Other than the chosen creatures of God. 74
