Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up in thy raiment! 1 rise (to pray) the night except a little; 2 A half of it or a little less 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Indeed We shall soon ordain a heavy responsibility upon you. 5 Surely the rising by night is the firmest way to tread and the best corrective of speech. 6 Verily, there is for you by day prolonged occupation with ordinary duties, 7 And remember the name of your Lord and devote yourself to Him with [complete] devotion. 8 Lord of the East and the West; there is no Allah save Him; so choose thou Him alone for thy defender - 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 And leave Me alone [to deal] with those who give the lie to the truth - those who enjoy the blessings of life [without any thought of God] - and bear thou with them for a little while: 11 Indeed We have heavy fetters and a blazing fire. 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 On the Day the earth and the mountains will convulse and the mountains will become a heap of sand pouring down. 14 We have sent a messenger who is a witness over you, just as We sent a messenger to Pharoah before you. 15 But Pharaoh rebelled against the messenger, whereupon We seized him with no gentle grip. 16 If you persist in disbelieving, how will you guard yourself against the (woe of the) Day that will turn children grey-haired, 17 Whereby heaven shall be split, and its promise shall be performed. 18 Surely this is a reminder, then let him, who will take the way to his Lord. 19
