The people of Lut gave the lie to the apostles. 160 When their brother Lout (Lot) said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 161 Behold, I am an apostle [sent by Him] to you, [and therefore] worthy of your trust: 162 So fear Allah, and obey me. 163 And I do not ask you any reward for it; my reward is only with the Lord of the worlds; 164 Go ye in, of all creatures, unto the males? 165 And leave what your Lord has created for you of your wives? Nay, you are a people exceeding limits. 166 They said: if thou desistest not, O Lut! thou shalt surely be of those driven forth. 167 He said, 'Truly I am a detester of what you do. 168 My Lord, deliver me and my people from that they do.' 169 So We saved him and his whole family 170 except an old woman who remained behind. 171 But the rest We destroyed utterly. 172 And We rained on them a rain. And dreadful is the rain of those who have been warned. 173 Surely in this there is a sign: but most of them would not believe: 174 And indeed your Lord – only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 175
