The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
O you enveloped in your cloak! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 Purify your inner self, 4 and shun uncleanness, 5 And do not through giving seek thyself to gain, 6 And for the good-will of thy Lord be thou patient. 7 Finally, when the Trumpet is sounded, 8 So that is a tough day. 9 It will not be easy for those who deny the truth. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And gave him abundant wealth 12 And sons dwelling in his presence, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 yet he is eager that I increase him. 15 By no means! Verily he hath been unto Our signs a foe. 16 Soon will I visit him with a mount of calamities! 17 Lo! He reflected, and determined -- 18 and thus he destroys himself, the way he meditates: 19 Again, ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 20 and then he looks [around for new arguments,] 21 frowned and scowled, 22 then he retreated and grew proud 23 Then he said: This is naught but enchantment, narrated (from others); 24 This is nothing but the word of mortal man!" 25 [Hence,] I shall cause him to endure hell-fire [in the life to come]! 26 And what will make you know exactly what Hell-fire is? 27 It leaveth naught; it spareth naught 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed none but angels to guard the Fire, and made their number only as a trial for the unbelievers, so that those to whom the Book was given are certain and those who believe increase in belief. And that those who were given the Book, and those who believe will not be in doubt. And that those in whose hearts there is a sickness, together with the unbelievers, may say: 'What did Allah intend by this as an example' As such, Allah leaves in error whom He will and He guides whomsoever He will. None knows the hosts of your Lord except He. This is no more than a Reminder to humans. 31
