The people of 'Ad accused the messengers of lies. 123 Behold, their brother Hud said to them: "Will ye not fear (Allah)? 124 I am a trustworthy messenger for you: 125 be, then, conscious of God, and pay heed unto me! 126 For this I ask of you no wage, for my wage falls only on the Lord of the Worlds. 127 "Do ye build a landmark on every high place to amuse yourselves? 128 And seek ye out strongholds, that haply ye may last for ever? 129 When you assault, you assault like tyrants. 130 So be fearful of God and follow me. 131 "And keep your duty to Him, fear Him Who has aided you with all (good things) that you know. 132 "He has aided you with cattle and children. 133 gardens, and springs. 134 Surely I fear for you the chastisement of a grievous day 135 They replied: 'It is the same to us whether you admonish or whether you are not one of the admonishers. 136 This is but a custom of the ancients. 137 We will not be subjected to any chastisement." 138 So they rejected him, and We destroyed them. Verily in this is a Sign: but most of them do not believe. 139 And indeed your Lord only He is the Almighty, the Most Merciful. 140
