Stories (Al-Qasas)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ta Sin Mim. 1 Those are the signs of the Manifest Book. 2 We recite unto thee of the story of Musa and Fir'awn with truth for a people who believe. 3 The Pharaoh had become high and mighty in the land, and divided the people into different classes, and impoverished one class, slaying its males and sparing its women, for he was indeed a tyrant. 4 We wanted to bestow favour on those who were oppressed in the land. We wanted to make them leaders and heirs 5 And to give them control in the land, and to show Firaun and Haman and their armies what they fear from them. 6 And We inspired the mother of Musa, saying: suckle him, then when thou fearest for him, cast him into the river and fear not, nor grieve. Verily We are going to restore him unto thee, and shall make him one of the sent ones. 7 Then Pharaoh's household picked him up (from the river) that he may be their adversary and be a cause of sorrow to them. Surely Pharaoh and Haman and their hosts erred (in their scheming). 8 And Firaun’s wife said, “This child is the comfort of my eyes and yours*; do not kill him; perhaps he may benefit us, or we may adopt him as our son” – and they were unaware. (Had Firaun also said the same, Allah would have granted him faith.) 9 But there came to be a void in the heart of the mother of Moses: She was going almost to disclose his (case), had We not strengthened her heart (with faith), so that she might remain a (firm) believer. 10 She told his sister: "Follow him." So she kept an eye on him from a distance, unbeknown to them. 11 ۞ Now We had forbidden to him aforetime to be suckled by any foster-mother; therefore she said, 'Shall I direct you to the people of a household who will take charge of him for you and look after him?' 12 So We restored him to his mother that she might be content and not grieve and that she would know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of the people do not know. 13
