In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou enwrapped in thy robes, 1 Stay up the night long save a little 2 (Worship Him) for more or less than half of the night 3 Or add (a little) thereto - and chant the Qur'an in measure, 4 Indeed, We will cast upon you a heavy word. 5 [and,] verily, the hours of night impress the mind most strongly and speak with the clearest voice, 6 Indeed you have a lot of matters during the day. 7 So remember the name of thy Lord and devote thyself with a complete devotion - 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And let Me alone with the beliers, owners of ease: and respite thou them a little. 11 We have prepared for them fetters, flaming fire, 12 food which chokes (them), and a painful torment. 13 On that day, the earth and the mountains will be violently shaken, and the mountains will be turned into heaps of moving sand. 14 We have sent to you, (O men!) a messenger, to be a witness concerning you, even as We sent a messenger to Pharaoh. 15 But the Pharaoh disobeyed the apostle; so We seized him with a grievous punishment. 16 How, then, will you guard yourselves, if you disbelieve, on the day which shall make children grey-headed? 17 Whereon the heaven will be cleft asunder? His Promise is certainly to be accomplished. 18 Verily this is an admonition; let him therefore, who will, choose a way unto his Lord. 19
