The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O YOU ENFOLDED in your mantle (of reform), 1 Arise and warn, 2 Glorify your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And pollution shun. 5 And give not a thing in order to have more (or consider not your deeds of Allah's obedience as a favour to Allah). 6 But, for thy Lord's (Cause), be patient and constant! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 It will be a day of distress, 9 not an easy day for the unbelievers. 10 Leave to Me the one, whom I have created all by Myself, 11 To whom I granted resources in abundance, 12 And sons present by his side. 13 and whom I have provided with every resource, 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give him even more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I will constrain him to a hard ascent. 17 Indeed, he thought and deliberated. 18 So accursed be he, how evilly did he decide! 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he considered [again]; 21 Then he frowned and he looked in a bad tempered way; 22 then he retreated and waxed proud, 23 and said: 'This is no more than traced sorcery; 24 Nothing more than the speech of a man!" 25 I shall surely roast him in Sakar; 26 What will let you know what the Scorching is like! 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Above it are nineteen guards. 30 We have appointed none but angels as the keepers of the Fire, and We have not made their number but as a trial for the unbelievers so that those who have been endowed with the Book will be convinced and the believers' faith will increase, and neither those who have been endowed with the Book nor the believers will fall into any doubt. As for those in whose hearts there is a sickness as well as the unbelievers, they will say: “What did Allah aim at by this strange parable?” Thus does Allah let whomsoever He pleases to go astray, and directs whomsoever He pleases to the Right Way. And none knows the hosts of your Lord but He. (And Hell has only been mentioned here) that people may take heed. 31
