The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the heaven is split asunder 1 And attentive to her Lord in fear, 2 And when the earth is stretched, 3 and casts out all that is within and voids itself, 4 obeying its Sustainer, as in truth it must: 5 O man! surely you must strive (to attain) to your Lord, a hard striving until you meet Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 His account shall presently be taken by an easy reckoning. 8 And will return to his family in joy! 9 But as for him who is given his book behind his back, 10 Soon will he cry for perdition, 11 and he will enter the blazing flame. 12 Indeed, he had [once] been among his people in happiness; 13 for he never thought that he would have to return [to God]. 14 Yea indeed! His Sustainer did see all that was in him! 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 And by the night and whatever it gathers in its darkness; 17 and the moon when it grows full, 18 That ye shall journey on from plane to plane. 19 What is the matter with them that they do not accept faith? 20 And when the Quran is recited to them, they fall not prostrate, ۩ 21 Nay! those who disbelieve give the lie to the truth. 22 but God knows best whatever they accumulate in their hearts. 23 Therefore give to them glad tidings of a painful punishment, 24 Except those who believe and do good; for them is a reward that shall never be cut off. 25
