Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Kaf Ha Ya Ain Suad. 1 (This is) a mention of the mercy of your Lord to His slave Zakariya (Zachariah). 2 when he called upon his Lord in low tones, saying, 3 and said, "My Lord, my bones have become feeble and my hair has turned white with age. Yet I have never been deprived in receiving from You the answer to my prayers. 4 Lo! I fear my kinsfolk after me, since my wife is barren. Oh, give me from Thy presence a successor 5 Who will be heir to me, and heir to the house of Jacob; and make him obedient to You, O Lord." 6 O Zakariyya! verily We give thee the glad tidings of a boy: his name shall be Yahya; We have not afore-time made his namesake. 7 He said: O my Lord! when shall I have a son, and my wife is barren, and I myself have reached indeed the extreme degree of old age? 8 He said: So (it will be). Thy Lord saith: It is easy for Me, even as I created thee before, when thou wast naught. 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 To John We said, "Hold fast the Book," and while he was still a child, We bestowed upon him wisdom, 12 as well as, by Our grace, [the gift of] compassion and purity; and he was [always] conscious of Us 13 honoring his parents, being neither arrogant nor rebellious. 14 And peace be upon him the day he was born and the day he dies and the day he is raised alive. 15
