Thus did We deliver the Children of Israel from the humiliating chastisement, 30 [inflicted on them] by Pharaoh, seeing that he was truly outstanding among those who waste their own selves; 31 We gave preference to the Israelites over the other people with Our knowledge 32 And granted them Signs in which there was a manifest trial 33 Indeed, these [disbelievers] are saying, 34 "There is nothing beyond our first death, and we shall not be raised again. 35 "Then bring back our fore-fathers, if you speak the truth!" 36 Are they better or the people of Tubba' and those before them? We destroyed them, [for] indeed, they were criminals. 37 And We did not create the heavens and the earth, and all that is between them, just for play. 38 We did not create them except in truth, but most of them do not know. 39 Surely the day of separation is their appointed term, of all of them 40 the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to another, nor shall any be helped, 41 Apart from those to whom God is kind. He is all-mighty and all-merciful. 42
