I say the truth, and call the moon to witness, 32 And by the night when it withdraws, 33 And [by] the morning when it brightens, 34 Lo! this is one of the greatest (portents) 35 As a warning unto men, 36 to whoever of you desires to go forward or lag behind. 37 Each one is a hostage to one's deeds, 38 save the People of the Right Hand 39 [dwelling] In gardens [of paradise,] they will inquire 40 of those who were lost in sin: 41 "What has brought you into the Fire of Hell ?" 42 They said, “We never used to offer the prayer.” 43 And we have not been feeding the poor. 44 And plunged into useless things with those who were obstinate, 45 "And we used to belie the Day of Recompense 46 until death approached us". 47 Then will no intercession of (any) intercessors profit them. 48 Then what is wrong with them that they turn away from admonition, 49 as though they were terrified asses 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Nay, every man of them desires to be -- given -- scrolls unrolled. 52 This will certainly never be the case! In fact, they are not afraid of the Day of Judgment. 53 No! Indeed, the Qur'an is a reminder 54 Let any who will, keep it in remembrance! 55 And they will not remember, except that God wills; He is worthy to be feared, -- worthy to forgive. 56
