He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 because the blind man approached him! 2 Yet for all thou didst know, [O Muhammad,] he might perhaps have grown in purity, 3 Or be admonished, so that the admonition might have profited him? 4 As for him who considers himself free from need (of you), 5 You pay full attention, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 And whereas he fears, 9 So you leave him, and are engrossed elsewhere! 10 Assuredly this is a reminder 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed be man! how ungrateful is he! 17 Of what did He create him? 18 From Nutfah (male and female semen drops) He created him, and then set him in due proportion; 19 Then maketh the way easy for him, 20 Then He causes him to die, then assigns to him a grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 But no. He has not fulfilled what was enjoined on him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We poured down rain abundantly, 25 And We split the earth in clefts, 26 And cause the grain to grow therein 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And the olive and the palm, 29 And garden-closes of thick foliage 30 And fruits and herbage 31 (These are made so as to be) means of enjoyment for you and your cattle. 32 AND SO, when the piercing call [of resurrection] is heard 33 That Day shall a man flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father 35 And from his wife and sons. 36 for on that day everyone will be completely engrossed in his own concerns. 37 [Some] faces, that Day, will be bright - 38 and be cheerful and joyous. 39 And other faces, that Day, will be dust-stained; 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 Those are the disbelievers, the wicked. 42
