The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the inevitable event takes place, 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 and become like scattered dust particles, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of bliss [will they dwell] 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 Also, they will be served with the fruits of their choice 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The likes unto pearls hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 And plantains laden with fruit. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit abundant. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And carpets raised. 34 Surely We have made them to grow into a (new) growth, 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
