The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the night enshrouding 1 And the day when it shines in brightness, 2 And by Him Who created male and female; 3 Indeed, your efforts are diverse. 4 As for him who giveth and is dutiful (toward Allah) 5 And believes in Al-Husna. 6 observe piety, and believe in receiving rewards from God. 7 And for him who hoarded wealth and remained carefree, 8 and cries lies to the reward most fair, 9 We will make smooth for him the path for evil; 10 and their wealth will be of no benefit to them when they face destruction. 11 Surely it is for Us to show the Right Way, 12 And indeed the Hereafter and this world both belong to Us. 13 and so I warn you of the raging fire 14 where none shall burn except the most wicked, 15 The one who denied and turned away. 16 And away from it shall be kept the one who guards most (against evil), 17 he that spends his possessions [on others] so that he might grow in purity 18 not as payment for any favours that he received, 19 Except as seeking (to fulfil) the purpose of his Lord Most High. 20 and before long he will be well satisfied. 21
