The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ What do they question each other about! 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 Regarding which they hold different views. 3 Nay, but in time they will come to understand [it]! 4 And once again: Nay, but in time they will come to understand! 5 Have We not spread the earth like a bed, 6 and raised the mountains like supporting poles? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 And We made your sleep to be rest (to you), 9 and made the night a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and placed in them a blazing lamp 13 and sent down abundant water from the clouds 14 Thereby to produce grain and plant, 15 And gardens of entwined growth. 16 Surely the day of decision is (a day) appointed: 17 the day the Trumpet is blown, and you shall come in troops, 18 and heaven is opened, having gates, 19 and the mountains are set in motion, and become a vapour. 20 Lo! hell lurketh in ambush, 21 The destination of the rebellious. 22 They will remain in it for ages. 23 Nothing cool shall they taste therein, nor any drink. 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 And called Our communications a lie, giving the lie (to the truth). 28 And all things We have recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste ye (the fruits of your deeds); for no increase shall We grant you, except in Punishment." 30
