The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
O thou wrapped up (in the mantle)! 1 Arise and warn, 2 and magnify the glory of your Lord, 3 thy robes purify 4 And all abomination shun! 5 Do not give, thinking to gain greater 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the Trump is sounded 8 that will surely be a hard day, 9 For the disbelievers - not easy. 10 Leave Me alone, (to deal) with the (creature) whom I created (bare and) alone!- 11 and designated for him ample wealth, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And I adjusted affairs for him adjustably; 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! He is forward unto Our signs; 16 I shall inflict on him hardship, 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 But may he be cursed how he plotted; 19 Then may he be destroyed [for] how he deliberated. 20 Then he beheld, 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was proud; 23 and says, "All this is mere spellbinding eloquence handed down [from olden times]! 24 These are only words from a mere mortal". 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares nothing; it leaves nothing intact; 28 making [all truth] visible to mortal man. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 And We have appointed none but the angels to be wardens of the Fire. And their number we have made only a trial for those who disbelieve, so that those who are vouchsafed the Book may be convinced, and that those who believe may increase in faith, and that those who are vouchsafed the Book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the infidels may say: what meaneth Allah by this description! In this wise Allah sendeth astray whomsoever He will, and guideth whomsoever He will. And none knoweth the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but an admonition unto man. 31
