The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the night when it envelopeth, 1 And by oath of the day when it shines 2 And Him who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 As for him who gives (in charity) and keeps his duty to Allah and fears Him, 5 And (in all sincerity) testifies to the best,- 6 We shall facilitate for him the Way to Bliss. 7 But he who is a greedy miser and thinks himself self-sufficient, 8 And rejects goodness, 9 We will facilitate for him the difficult end. 10 His wealth will not avail him when he falls into ruin. 11 Indeed, Guidance is Ours, 12 and to Us belong the Last and the First. 13 I have now warned you of the Blazing Fire, 14 None shall enter it save the most wretched, 15 Who denies and turns away. 16 But the righteous one will avoid it - 17 Those who spend their wealth for increase in self-purification, 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Except only the desire to seek the Countenance of his Lord, the Most High; 20 And he shall soon be well-pleased. 21
