Surely We created man of a clay of mud moulded, 26 And the jinn did We create aforetime of essential fire. 27 Recall when your Lord said to the angels: "I will indeed bring into being a human being out of dry ringing clay wrought from black mud. 28 "When I have fashioned him (in due proportion) and breathed into him of My spirit, fall ye down in obeisance unto him." 29 The angels bowed in homage in a body 30 Except Iblees, he refused to be with those who prostrated. 31 (Allah) said: "O Iblis! what is your reason for not being among those who prostrated themselves?" 32 He said: I am not one to prostrate myself unto a mortal whom Thou hast created out of potter's clay of black mud altered! 33 He said: Then get out of it, for surely you are driven away: 34 and [My] rejection shall be thy due until the Day of Judgment!" 35 Said he, 'My Lord, respite me till the day they shall be raised.' 36 Allah said: verily then thou art of the respited: 37 Till the Day of appointed time. 38 [Iblis (Satan)] said: "O my Lord! Because you misled me, I shall indeed adorn the path of error for them (mankind) on the earth, and I shall mislead them all. 39 “Except those among them who are Your chosen bondmen.” 40 Allah said: "Here is the path that leads straight to Me. 41 “Indeed you do not have any power over My bondmen, except those wanderers who follow you.” (The devil is unsuccessful in tempting Allah’s chosen bondmen to commit sin.) 42 And verily Hell is the place promised unto them all. 43 It hath seven gates, and each gate hath an appointed portion. 44
