Mary (Maryam)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Kaf-Ha-Ya-'Ain-Sad. 1 A mention of the Mercy of your Lord to his worshiper Zachariah, 2 Recall what time he cried unto his Lord with a cry secret. 3 saying, 'O my Lord, behold the bones within me are feeble and my head is all aflame with hoariness. And in calling on Thee, my Lord, I have never been hitherto unprosperous. 4 I fear evil from my kinsmen after I am gone; and my wife is barren, so grant me an heir out of Your special grace, 5 "Who shall inherit me, and inherit (also) the posterity of Ya'qub (Jacob) (inheritance of the religious knowledge and Prophethood, not the wealth, etc.). And make him, my Lord, one with whom You are Well-pleased!". 6 (He was told): "Zechariah, We bring you the good news of the birth of a son whose name shall be Yahya (John), one whose namesake We never created before." 7 He said: "My Lord! How can I have a boy when my wife is barren and I have reached an extremely old age?" 8 (The angel) answered: "Thus will it be. Your Lord said: 'This is easy for Me; for when I brought you into being you were nothing.' 9 (Zakariya) said: "O my Lord! give me a Sign." "Thy Sign," was the answer, "Shall be that thou shalt speak to no man for three nights, although thou art not dumb." 10 Thereupon he came out of the sanctuary unto his people and signified to them [by gestures]: "Extol His limitless glory by day and by night!" 11 'O John, take the Book forcefully'; and We gave him judgment, yet a little child, 12 And tenderness from Our presence and purity, and he was God-fearing. 13 And duteous unto his parents, and was not high-handed rebel. 14 Peace be upon him the day he was born, and the day he will die, and the day he will be raised up alive. 15
