The Comet (Al-Taareq)
17 verses, revealed in Mecca after The Town (Al-Balad) before The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER the heavens and that which comes in the night! 1 And what shall make thee know that which the night-comer is? 2 It is the piercing star - 3 That over each soul there is a guardian. 4 Let the human being reflect that from what he has been created. 5 He was created from ejaculated water 6 Emerging from between the backbone and the ribs. 7 Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! 8 upon the day when the secrets are tried, 9 he will have no power, nor anyone to help him. 10 I swear by the raingiving heavens, 11 by the earth cracking open with new growth. 12 Most surely it is a decisive word, 13 not a flippant jest. 14 Surely they will make a scheme, 15 but I too plan against them. 16 Therefore respite the unbelievers, and delay them for a while. 17
