Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ I swear by this city -- 1 – this city wherein you have been rendered violable– 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 that We have created the human being to face a great deal of hardship. 4 Does he think that none has power over him! 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 Does he think that no one has seen him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he has made no effort to pass on the path that is steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is the setting free of a slave 13 Or giving food in a day of hunger (famine), 14 of an orphan near of kin, 15 Or to the indigent (down) in the dust. 16 And to be of those who believe and exhort one another to perseverance and exhort one another to pity. 17 Those who do so are the people of the right hand, 18 But those who disbelieved in Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.), they are those on the Left Hand (the dwellers of Hell). 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
