The great ones among Pharaoh's people said: "Verily, this is indeed a sorcerer of great knowledge, 109 who seeks to drive you out from your land. What would you have us do?' 110 They said, "Postpone [the matter of] him and his brother and send among the cities gatherers 111 “To bring all the expert magicians to you.” 112 And so the sorcerers came to Fir'aun (Pharaoh). They said: "Indeed there will be a (good) reward for us if we are the victors." 113 He said, 'Yes, indeed; and you shall be among the near-stationed.' 114 They said, "O Moses, either you throw [your staff], or we will be the ones to throw [first]." 115 He replied, "Throw yours first." Their great magic bewitched people's eyes and terrified them. 116 And we revealed unto Musa: cast down thy rod. And lo! it was swallowing up that which they had feigned. 117 ۞ Thus truth was confirmed, and all that they did was made of no effect. 118 And thus were they vanquished there and then, and became utterly humiliated. 119 But the sorcerers fell down prostrate in adoration. 120 They said: We believe in the Lord of the worlds, 121 "The Lord of Moses and Aaron." 122 Said Pharaoh: "Believe ye in Him before I give you permission? Surely this is a trick which ye have planned in the city to drive out its people: but soon shall ye know (the consequences). 123 I will cut off your hands and feet on the alternate sides and crucify you all." 124 They said: verily unto our Lord we are turning. 125 Will you punish us just because we believed in the signs of our Lord when they came to us? Our Lord! Shower us with perseverance and cause us to die as those who have submitted [to You].' 126
