A crowd of earlier generations 39 and a large group of those of later times. 40 The Companions of the Left (O Companions of the Left!) 41 In hot wind and boiling water, 42 in the shadow of a smoking blaze, 43 Neither cool nor pleasant. 44 They had been affluent before, 45 And were persisting in great sin (joining partners in worship along with Allah, committing murders and other crimes, etc.) 46 And they used to say, "What! when we die and become dust and bones, shall we then indeed be raised up again?- 47 Or our fathers of yore? 48 Say: "Yea, those of old and those of later times, 49 shall be gathered to the appointed time of a known day. 50 Then verily ye, O ye erring, denying people. 51 will eat from the fruit of the tree of Zaqqum, 52 and you shall fill therewith your bellies 53 and shall drink boiling water on top of that. 54 And drink as drinks the thirsty camel. 55 Such will be their dwelling on the Day of Judgment. 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Have ye seen that which ye emit? 58 Do you make a human out of it, or is it We Who create? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 from changing your Forms and creating you (again) in (forms) that ye know not. 61 You certainly knew about (your) first development. Why do you not take heed? 62 Have you seen what you sow? 63 Is it you who makes it grow, or are We the grower? 64 If We willed, We could make it [dry] debris, and you would remain in wonder, 65 “We have been penalised; 66 nay; we have been undone!” 67 Behold! the water which ye drink: 68 Is it you that send it down from the clouds, or are We the senders? 69 If We willed We verily could make it bitter. Why then, give ye not thanks? 70 Tell Me! The fire which you kindle, 71 Is it you who produced its tree, or are We the producer? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 (Muhammad), glorify your Lord, the Great One. 74
