The Splitting (Al-Inshiqaaq)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ When the heaven bursts asunder, 1 And it listens to the command of its Lord – and that befits it. 2 When the earth is stretched out taut 3 and casts out what is within it and is emptied, 4 And attentive to her Lord in fear! 5 O Man! Thou art labouring unto thy Lord laboriously, and thou shalt encounter Him. 6 And he who is given his ledger in his right hand 7 shall have an easy reckoning 8 and shall return to his people joyfully. 9 But as for those whose Book of records will be given behind their backs, 10 Soon he will pray for death. 11 And enter into burning fire. 12 Behold, [in his earthly life] he lived joyfully among people of his own kind 13 he surely thought he would never revert. 14 Yea! his Lord had ever been beholding him. 15 Oh, I swear by the afterglow of sunset, 16 The Night and its Homing; 17 and by the moon, when it reaches its fullness: 18 Surely ye shall ride layer upon layer. 19 So, what is the matter with them that they do not believe, 20 And, when the Qur'an is recited unto them, worship not (Allah)? ۩ 21 Nay, but they who are bent on denying the truth give the lie [to this divine writ]! 22 And Allah is most knowing of what they keep within themselves. 23 Wherefore announce thou unto them a torment afflictive. 24 except for those who believe and do good deeds. Theirs shall be an unending reward. 25
