The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
Read in the name of your Lord Who created. 1 created the human from a (blood) clot. 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 Who taught by the pen - 4 Hath taught man that which he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Verily, to thy Lord is the return (of all). 8 Have you seen the one who forbids 9 A votary when he turns to his devotions? 10 Do you think he is rightly guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 What is your opinion – if he denies and turns away, how wretched will be his state! 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A forelock, lying, sinning. 16 Then let him call upon his henchmen! 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 By no means! Obey not thou him. Continue to adore, and continue to draw nigh. ۩ 19
