And when the messengers came unto the family of Lot, 61 he said, "You are strangers [to me]." 62 They said, "No, but we bring you news about what they disputed, 63 and we are bringing thee the certainty [of its fulfilment]: for, behold, we are speaking the truth indeed. 64 So travel with thy household in a portion of the night, and follow thou their backs. Let none of you turn round, but go whither ye are commanded. 65 And We communicated to him the decree that by the morning those people will be totally destroyed. 66 And the inhabitants of the city came rejoicing (at the news of the young men's arrival). 67 He said: Lo! they are my guests. Affront me not! 68 And fear Allah and do not disgrace me." 69 "Did we not restrain you," they said, "from (entertaining) creatures from the outside world?" 70 Lot exclaimed in exasperation: "If you are bent on doing something, then here are my daughters." 71 Verily, by thy life (O Prophet), in their wild intoxication, they wander in distraction, to and fro. 72 Then the mighty Blast caught them at sunrise, 73 and We turned those [sinful towns] upside down, and rained down upon them stone-hard blows of chastisement pre-ordained. 74 Lo! therein verily are portents for those who read the signs. 75 surely it is on a way yet remaining; 76 In this there is evidence (of the Truth) for the believers. 77 And the dwellers of the wood surely were wrong-doers. 78 So We inflicted retribution on them, and they are both, indeed, on an open road (still) pursued. 79
