Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 On this night, every absolute command coming from Us becomes distinguishable. 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 As Mercy from thy Lord: for He hears and knows (all things); 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you are certain (of your faith). 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Watch for the Day when the heaven will bring clear smoke, 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us – we now accept faith.” 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 We now remove the punishment for some days – so you will again commit the same. 15 On the day when We will seize (them) with the most violent seizing; surely We will inflict retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and, 'Rise not up against God; behold, I come to you with a clear authority, 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he supplicated to his Lord saying: 'These are sinful people' 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 "And leave the sea as it is (quiet and divided). Verily, They are a host to be drowned." 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 And fields and grand palaces! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 The sky nor the earth cried for them, nor were they given respite. 29
