The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ OF WHAT ARE they asking one another? 1 About the awesome tidings [of resurrection] 2 About which they cannot agree. 3 No indeed; they shall soon know! 4 Again, no indeed; they shall soon know! 5 Did We not make the earth a spreading, 6 The mountains tent-pins? 7 And it is We who created you in pairs. 8 and made your sleep a means of repose, 9 and the night as a cover, 10 And have appointed the day for livelihood. 11 And We made above you seven strong ones, 12 And have appointed a dazzling lamp, 13 and have sent down from the clouds, pouring rain 14 so that We may thereby bring forth grain and vegetation, 15 and gardens dense with foliage? 16 Indeed the Day of Decision is a time fixed. 17 The Day that the Trumpet shall be sounded, and ye shall come forth in crowds; 18 and when the skies are opened and become [as wide-flung] gates; 19 And the mountains shall be moved off so that they shall remain a mere semblance. 20 [On that Day,] verily, hell will lie in wait [for those who deny the truth] 21 For the transgressors a place of destination: 22 They will dwell therein for ages. 23 and where they will taste neither coolness nor any drink 24 Save scalding water and corruption. 25 Requital corresponding. 26 For verily, they used not to look for a reckoning. 27 and persistently rejected Our revelations. 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 "So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment." 30
