He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned (his) back, 1 Because there came to him the blind man, [interrupting]. 2 How could you know? Perhaps he would cleanse himself, 3 or he might be mindful and good counsel might avail him. 4 As for he who is sufficed 5 to a rich man, 6 Whereas it is not on thee that he is not cleansed. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay him no heed. 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 and whosoever wills, shall remember it. 12 upon highly honored pages, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what stuff hath He created him? 18 He created him from a living germ. He determined his fate 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then He caused him to die and brought him to the grave, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will resurrect him (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 We poured water, pouring it in great abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 Thereby produced grain in it. 27 and grape vines and vegetables, 28 Olives and dates, 29 and dense-tree'd gardens, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 Provision for you and your cattle. 32 Then, when there comes As-Sakhkhah (the Day of Resurrection's second blowing of Trumpet), 33 upon the day when a man shall flee from his brother, 34 his mother, his father, 35 his wife and his sons: 36 Everyman, that Day, will have enough to make him careless of others. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And [other] faces, that Day, will have upon them dust. 40 enveloped by darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
