The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
The Hour has drawn nigh: the moon is split. 1 And if they see a miracle they turn aside and say: Transient magic. 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 And there have come to them such tidings as contain a deterrent -- 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 So leave them, [O Muhammad]. The Day the Caller calls to something forbidding, 6 they will come out of their graves, their eyes cast down, hastening towards their Summoner as locusts rushing about. 7 Racing ahead toward the Caller. The disbelievers will say, "This is a difficult Day." 8 ۞ Before them the People of Noah rejected (their messenger): they rejected Our servant, and said, "Here is one possessed!", and he was driven out. 9 Thereupon he called out to his Sustainer, "Verily, I am defeated; come Thou, then, to my succour!" 10 We opened the Gates of Heaven with torrential water 11 and made the earth to gush with fountains, and the waters met for a matter decreed. 12 And We carried Nooh upon a ship of wooden planks and nails. 13 Floating under Our Eyes, a reward for him who had been rejected! 14 And We left the Ark as a Sign. Is there, then, any who will take heed? 15 Then how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 16 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 17 The people of 'Ad too rejected the truth. How terrible was My punishment and My warning. 18 On an unfortunate day We sent upon them a continuous violent wind 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 How terrible was Our torment and the result of (their disregard) of Our warning. 21 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 22
