If We let a human taste Our Mercy and then withhold it from him, he becomes desperate and ungrateful. 9 But if We give him a taste of (Our) favours after adversity hath touched him, he is sure to say, "All evil has departed from me:" Behold! he falls into exultation and pride. 10 Not so do those who show patience and constancy, and work righteousness; for them is forgiveness (of sins) and a great reward. 11 IS IT, then, conceivable [O Prophet] that thou couldst omit any part of what is being revealed unto thee [because the deniers of the truth dislike it, and] because thy heart is distressed at their saying, "Why has not a treasure been bestowed upon him from on high?" - or, "[Why has not] an angel come [visibly] with him?" [They fail to understand that] thou art only a warner, whereas God has everything in His care; 12 Or do they say: 'He has forged it' Say (to them): 'Then produce ten forged chapters like it. Call, if you are able, upon other than Allah, if what you say is true' 13 So O Muslims, if they are unable to reply to this challenge of yours, then know well that it is sent down only with the knowledge of Allah; and that except Him, there is no real God; so will you now accept? 14 Those who desire the life of this world and all its finery shall be repaid in full in this life for their deeds -- nothing shall be denied them. 15 Such people will receive nothing in the next life except Hell fire. Their deeds will be made devoid of all virtue and their efforts will be in vain. 16 Is he (to be counted equal with them) who relieth on a clear proof from his Lord, and a witness from Him reciteth it, and before it was the Book of Moses, an example and a mercy? Such believe therein, and whoso disbelieveth therein of the clans, the Fire is his appointed place. So be not thou in doubt concerning it. Lo! it is the Truth from thy Lord; but most of mankind believe not. 17 And who is more unjust than the one who fabricates a lie against Allah? They will be presented before their Lord, and the witnesses* will say, “These are they who lied concerning their Lord; the curse of Allah be upon the unjust!” (* The Prophets and angels.) 18 Such as those who turn others away from the path of God and seek to make it appear crooked: these are the ones who deny the Hereafter. 19 They will in no wise frustrate (His design) on earth, nor have they protectors besides Allah! Their penalty will be doubled! They lost the power to hear, and they did not see! 20 They caused utter loss to themselves, and all that they had invented failed them. 21 Assuredly in the Hereafter they will be the greatest losers. 22 The righteously striving believers who are humble before their Lord, will be the dwellers of Paradise wherein they will live forever. 23 ۞ The semblance of these two groups is that of a man who is deaf and blind, and the other who can hear and see. Can they be equal? Why do you not reflect? 24
