Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
O you who are wrapped up in your mantle, 1 keep vigil the night, except a little 2 of one-half thereof - or make it a little less than that, 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 Behold, We shall cast upon you a Weighty Word. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 During the day, you are preoccupied with many activities. 7 Remember the name of your Lord, and devote yourself to Him wholeheartedly. 8 (He Alone is) the Lord of the east and the west, La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). So take Him Alone as Wakil (Disposer of your affairs). 9 And bear patiently what they say and avoid them with a becoming avoidance. 10 Leave the prosperous disbelievers to Me and give them respite for a little while; 11 Verily We shall have fetters with Us, and a roaring furnace, 12 And food that chokes and a painful punishment - 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 We have sent you a Messenger, who will witness your deeds, just as We sent a Messenger to the Pharaoh. 15 But Pharaoh disobeyed the messenger; so We seized him with a heavy Punishment. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 The heaven shall rend asunder thereby; His promise is ever brought to fulfillment. 18 Verily this is a reminder. So let him who desires take the way to his Lord. 19
